Angel-Book 6

Fang starts off with leaving Max a note saying that he will meet her again in 20 years. He feels he is a danger to the flock and doesn't want to hurt Max. He is also starting to believe that he is no match for Dylan who is meant to be perfect. Max is now very vulnerable without Fang. Dylan uses this opportunity to make a move on Max. Despite her previous mixed feelings Max begins to warm up to Dylan. Little does Max know that Fang is starting his own new flock/gang. He and Max's clone, now called Maya, are on a new mission to save the world. However, they do not plan to defy Max, only to help.

Both groups go to Paris in attempt to stop the Doomsday group from killing themselves. They are some sort of crazy organization, and if they were stopped it would save the world. Here Max's group and Fang's group accidentally meet up. They decide to join forces to stop the Doomsday group. During this time an explosion happens. No one can find Angel. She is believed to have died in the explosion. The end of the book is all about Angel. She wakes up in an ominous laboratory. She is surrounded by tons of people all promising that they will "take care of her". The flock has no idea the danger that Angel is in. She is left on her own. This is how the  book ends. Hopefully another book is going to come out soon so as to find out what happens to Angel.

FANG- BOOK 5

This book starts out with a devastating secret. Angel tells the flock that Fang is going to die. Max can't believe what she has heard, because she is finally starting to accept the fact that she is in love. Angel will not tell her how she knows of this secret, but it is assumed that it comes from one of her powers. When the science experiments are about to be terminated a bar code shows up on the back of the neck, so Max is constantly checking for one. Fang doesn't show any emotion to this factor; he is just trying to spend as much time as he can with Max. The only thing standing in their way is Dylan, who still thinks he is going to take Fang's place. Now the question is whether or not Dylan knew of this secret also and if that was why he was placed in the flock and trained to love Max.

Because Max and Fang are spending so much time with each other, the flock feels that they are a danger to the rest of the flock. They force the two to leave and Angel becomes the flock leader (what she has always wanted). Immediately Angel gets rid of all Max's rules. She gets rid of schooling and becomes the absolute ruler. In a way, the flock is scared of her, but she proves to be funner than Max. Fang ends up being captured by Dr. Hans and is killed. Max thinks that this is the end for all. Angel was right, so what is left for her to do now? The flock has a feeling something is up, so they rush to the rescue. Max injects an adrenaline shot into Fang's heart and revives him. He comes back to life, but in the mean time Dylan trys a suicide attempt, this does not work. After this the flock is reunited. This book ends here with a very suspenseful ending, making it impossible not to continue in the series.

MAX- BOOK 5

At the beginning of the book, the flock is trying to recover from their arctic adventure. While recovering, they hear of millions of fish dying off the coast of Hawaii. The reason why is unknown, so they government requests the flocks help once again. They unexpectedly come across the problem when Angel went swimming (she can breathe under water). Max, of course, was being too protective and went to fetch her. On her way she spotted something large and scary off in the distance. They immediately told the environmentalists, but nothing showed up on the radar. Not surprisingly it was Mr. Chu, the evil scientist that's been after the flock the whole time. He wants Max to join his side, so is following her every move to more easily convince her of his power. He finally grabs her attention when he captures the most important thing in her life, Valencia Martinez. He had her mom, and now she was lost. Her mom had helped her through everything, so it was up to her to help bring her back.

The "large something" happened to be Mr. Chu's submarine. Aboard it was Max's mom. Mr. Chu frequently beat her trying to get more information about Max out of her. He wanted to know where they were headed and what their plans were. He also starved her to try and receive more information. This did not work. Valencia was strong and she loved Max very much, there was no way she would give in. Max came across the ship due to Angel communicating with whales. The whales were able to tell her where the ship was and that it was what was killing the fish. The submarine was hit and water started bursting in. This was Max's chance. She had seen her mom through one of the windows and she did not look good. She was thin and bruised all over. Max got to her mom without a fight; she was rescued and brought to safety to rest and become healthy once again.

THE FINAL WARNING- BOOK 4

In this book Max discovers who her mother is. She is a veterinarian who lives in a quaint cottage in the country. This means that Max has also gained a sister. Her mother has known about her being an avian her whole life, but was not able to find Max. You also discover that Jeb, the evil scientist/pretend father, is her real father and is married to Valencia. All of this is a lot for Max to handle. Max really trusts her mom, so she is able to somewhat accept Jeb as her father. Max's mom convinces the flock to go on a trip to the antarctic. Valencia is part of a group of scientists trying to save the world naturally. They are planning a trip to the antarctic to study the fish and the land. She suggests that it would be safer there for the flock, so they agree to go. They are forced to live in a submarine, which is a challenge for the flock because of safety issues. They are all scared of tight spaces in case of an attack.

On the trip Fang has a crush on one of the scientists, making Max very jealous, allowing Fang to realize how strong her feelings for him really are. Not only do they find love, but so does Total. He falls in love with the science dog Akila. She is a huge, fluffy, white dog. The flock really enjoys their time here because they are able to let their guard down. They are not bothered by scientists at all, and they enjoy the feeling of being needed. They are constantly doing tests of the Earth and watching the lifestyles of the fish.

Of course the perfect trip couldn't last forever. When they are packing up to leave no one can find Angel. She was walking with Akila and fell in an ice crevice. It happens to be in the middle of a snow storm. The flock spreads out to search for her, but because of the cold and blowing snow it is hard for them to fly at a high altitude. When they finally find angel, she is trapped in a crevice with Akila on top of her. Akila is too heavy for the flock to carry out, so they are forced to stay out in the blizzard. They build a snow wall around where she is trapped to try to block the wind. They are freezing cold and starting to loose feeling in their body when the evil scientists and the erasers show up. They cannot fight because their bodies are numb. Therefore the flock is captured. This is the end of this book. What happens next will proceed in the next book.

SAVING THE WORLD AND OTHER EXTREME SPORTS- BOOK 3

This book, Max and the rest of the flock are still fighting off erasers and trying to solve their destiny of saving the world. Only this time it becomes more complicated. The flock is searching for their parents, only becoming more disappointed each time. Fang and Max start to realize their feelings for each other, making it very awkward for them to be around each other. Max is against falling for Fang because of the flock, although she can't help to think about him constantly.

Due to Max and Fangs' tensions they can't agree on anything. The flock ends up splitting up. At first it seems as if everyone is going to leave Max, but eventually the girls begin to feel pity for her and decide to go. Fang decides to hide out, keeping a low profile, while working on his blog. He has a blog that keeps the world up to par on the earliest flock drama. Max however, gets on a plane to Europe in search of the powerful scientists. She ends up being captured and held captive. She has no way to contact Fang and she knows that he will not come in search of her because of their fight.

What happens to Max and the girls is unknown. You will have to read to find out. The author purposely leaves a lot of details out, allowing the reader to fill in the details, so the book can be depicted in many ways. This book allows your imagination to run wild, because there is so much happening. It makes it that much more intense that the flock is split up during the most dramatic time.

SCHOOLS OUT FOREVER- BOOK 2

The second book is a continuation of the flock being on the run. They are headed to Washington D.C.. They never know where they are going or why; Max just always has a sense of where to go. On their way to this destination Fang is injured by an eraser. The flock is forced to take him to the hospital, because he is injured too badly. This is very dangerous for the flock because keeping their identity a secret is very important to their survival. Here, a nurse calls an FBI agent when she sees Fang's wings. They make and agreement with Anne, the FBI agent, to live at her house for safety. The only catch is that she is allowed to study them in return. Here the flock becomes comfortable, letting their guard down and not worrying about danger anymore.

The flock also attends a private school; this is for the needy and disabled, so they seem to fit right in. Anne is the one who forces them to go. The flock was raised in a science lab so they have no sort of knowledge, except survival. They begin to treat Anne as a mother, because none of the kids know who their parents are. This is exactly what Anne wanted. At the end of this book Anne reveals herself as a member of the lab in which the flock was created. She does show affection to the children, because she feels as if they really are her children since she helped to create them. Her greed for science over powers her lust as a mother however. This is the end of the book; it leaves you hanging wanting to immediately pick up the next one.

The Angel Experiment-Book 1

The title of the books centers around the story line. Throughout the story the flock races through adventure after adventure to find Angel. Angel is captured by evil scientists after they escape the laboratory. The main scientist against them is their so-called caretaker, who they thought they could trust; his name is Jeb. He supposedly died/left the flock, so it was a shock to find out that he was the one trying to capture and kill the flock. Also trying to kill them is Ari. He was their "stepbrother". He got turned into an eraser, which is every bird kids worst nightmare. Erasers are human-lupine creatures; when they get angry the morph into wolf-like creatures. This book is where Max finds out her true destiny as a human-avian. She was created to save the world. The book will not tell you from what, or when she is destined to do this. Max, of course, is so stubborn that she has her own plans for the future, and it doesn't include saving the world. As a leader, she just intends to protect her flock and save Angel.

This book is great, but is very vague on detail. It is only an introduction to the story and to the rest of the books. All of the action with the erasers, and the surprise of Jeb being alive makes the read very exciting and suspenseful. Angel being kidnapped early in the story is foreshadowing to her deceiving ways of always wanting full control, and doing what is best for herself and not the flock as a whole. The book was released in 2005, so is considerably new. I strongly recommend this book, and the ones to follow.

DYLAN

Dylan comes into play in Fang. He is a human avian, such as the rest of the flock. It is unknown if he is on the good or bad side yet. He was created by Dr. Gunther-Hagen (evil scientist). He however, has shown great dedication to the flock, but mainly towards Max. Dylan was programmed/trained to take Fang's place. The only thing he knows how to do is fight and love Max; she doesn't love him back though. He now lives with the flock, and has become very popular with them.

Dylan is an amazing fighter. He is so much more progressed than anyone in the flock. He can move at lightening speed, and he packs a mean punch. Dylan was designed like a model. He has a to-die-for body and luscious brown hair. He has beautiful chocolate colored wings also. He has a surfer tan and baby blue eyes. To make things short, he is every girls dream guy. Plus he can sing like a God! Dylan has no special powers because he was not created by the same evil scientist as the rest of the flock, and was created in a time where science was much more progressed.

ANGEL

Angel is my favorite character, but at the same time my least favorite character. She is very deceiving and mysterious. She is only 6, but has the mind of a genius. She can manipulate anyone and anything to do what she wants. Part of this has to do with the fact that she has mind control powers. Not only can she manipulate people, but she can hear their thoughts. Angel did not establish these powers until half way through the book. This is along with her ability to breath under water. She has gray and black wings, with an unknown wingspan.

Angel is the one in the flock that you can't trust. That's why it makes it easy not to like her. She had switched sides multiple times, helping out the evil scientists. When she was caught she insisted that it was for the flocks' own good. It is easy to forgive her, but then she goes and does it again. She is all about benefiting herself, and believes that in turn that should benefit the entire flock. She is always trying to find ways to out-do Max. Angel wants all the power and Max is holding her back. It's hard to figure out which side Angel is on, and that is what makes her character so exciting to follow.

GAZZY

Gazzy is a nickname for the Gasman. The flock calls him this because of his bodily functions. Let's just say he is one smelly guy, and he uses this to his advantage. He is 8 years old throughout part of the series, and then turns 9. He doesn't actually know when his birthday is, he just guesses every year. The Gasman has blond hair and blue eyes, and is the only one in the flock that has an actual sibling. This is Angel. The Gasmans power is to make a gas bubble that will grow to fill an entire room. It is so potent that it would make everyone pass out. This is what Max calls the mushroom cloud.

The color of his wings are brown with white spots, and his wingspan is 10 ft. He is very tall for his age, and actually appears much older than he is.The Gasman is a go-with-the-flow kind of guy. He doesn't much have an opinion, he just does what he is told. He spends his time passing gas, and finding new ways to make bombs with Iggy. Although the flock is really tough Gazzy has a huge fear of spiders, and he is very claustrophobic. This comes from being in cages as a child.

IGGY

Iggy is next in command, but he is equal with the Gasman. I will be covering him next week. Iggy, along with all the flock, has a 16 foot wing span. They need this span to be able to support their weight. Iggy has keen senses, except for his eyesight. The scientists were testing on him and tried to give him laser vision. Sadly it failed and caused him to go blind. He learns to overcome this however. Throughout the series he develops the ability to feel color. This is just one step closer to his dream of regaining his vision.
Iggy, although he is blind, is one of the best fighters. He packs a mean punch. His hearing is just that of a birds, which is how he is able to fight so well. Sometimes the fight doesn't go in his favor. Iggy's specialty is making bombs. The flock has never had an education, but Iggy is a genius when it comes to this subject. Several times the flock was on the verge of dieing and thanks to an explosion they merely escaped.
Iggy has no wow factors. He is not the character that stands out but he is still and important role in the flock. He is probably around 11 years old, but none of the kids know their actual age. Due to his age he does not have that sense of responsibility and control such as Max or Fang. He is more focused on having fun and is tired of saving the world. He just wants to be a normal kid. Who would want to have to fight for their life everyday?

FANG

Fang is Maximum's other half. He is strong and much like Maximum, but does not compromise her leadership. He knows his role in the flock and does not overstep that boundary. Fang is like the father of the flock. Ironically, Fang and Max become an item somewhere a long the way (trying not to give too much away), so this makes his father role more official.
Fang is much more "BA" than Max. The only reason he does not stand out compared to her is because he doesn't show it. Its only at certain times you will see him step out of this shell. He is quiet and mysterious, and he never shows emotion, except if it is towards Max. This sort of surprise with him is what makes it so intense. I picture him to be very good looking too. Since he is mysterious and strong. Plus the guy on the cover representing him is very attractive, so this makes it even more exciting to read along with Fang.
Its hard to describe fang because he is so, "to himself". You just have to read to grasp how interesting of a character he is, because it will send you on a ride of emotions and curiosity.

MAXIMUM

Maximum is the main character in the series, Maximum Ride. She is the flock leader; the flock is the group of avian kids that are like her. She looks over everyone, such as a mother. However, she is only 14 throughout the whole series. Her instincts and responsibility personifies her as much older. She spends half of her life searching for answers, and the other half fighting for her life.

Maximum is defiant. She doesn't take orders from anyone. She has always been in charge and doesn't plan to let anyone else take over. Max will do anything to keep that from happening. She is the strongest character. Throughout the book she barely shows any emotion, unless it is in thought. How could she show emotion when she has to be strong for the rest of the flock. Max has extreme instincts. She can sense trouble from any direction. Her instincts have kept the flock alive in many situations. Max is unlike any 14 year old girl. She does not choose to be grown up and responsible, but is forced to be because of the extreme amounts  of danger she faces. If it were up to her she would be somewhere warm, on the beach, and eating unlimited amounts of chocolate chip cookies.

Introduction

This blog will be about the Maximum Ride book series. The series contains seven books. I will be analyzing and recommending one book each week. However, my first couple of blogs will be describing the six main characters. In a short summary, the six children are avians. They have wings, because they were raised in a lab where scientists tested on them and also gave them several other odd features. The kids are constantly on the run and are expected to save the world. In my future blogs i will go into further detail of the excitement of this series.
